Mparntwe ( Alice Springs) Transport Disadvantage Research Project

The Alice Spring Transport Working Group is pleased to release the final report for the Mparntwe(Alice Springs) Transport Disadvantage Research Project. Transport disadvantage impacts people’s ability to access work, health, affordable food, education, and other essential services.
The Working Group membership comprises of several leading community-based agencies and government departments. It was formed in 2021 when Child Friendly Alice’s work overwhelmingly identified transport as a reoccurring roadblock for equitable access by families and children to services and other facilities in Alice Springs.
The Working Group commissioned this project to better understand transport disadvantage in Alice Springs and new ways of addressing the social issues involved. The Project used mixed methods analysis including surveys of community members and service providers, analysis of public transport datasets, qualitative interviews with community members and stakeholder organisations, and expert interviews conducted from 2021-2022 to investigate transport disadvantage and provide the evidence base for its’ findings and recommendations.
We hope these findings will be highly useful in shaping future responses relating to transport access in Alice Springs. Our sincere thanks to the Tangentyere Council Research Hub team for their work on this important project.
