The Community Sector Workforce Planning and Development Strategy Project

The Community Sector Workforce Planning and Development Strategy Project  (the project) was initiated by Department of Education and Training in recognition of the unique challenges, facing the NT Community sector, of attracting people to the industry and retaining them for the long term. Project funding was provided by the Department of education, Employment and Workplace relations.

The overall aim of the project is to identify and support the implementation of practical, flexible and integrated strategies that improve the supply and retention of skilled labour to Northern Territory Community Sector organisations.
To date the project has concentrated on identifying, developing and distributing practical and flexible tools and strategies to improve the recruitment, retention, workforce planning and development capabilities of the NT Community Sector.
Workforce Planning and Development Workshops have been developed and delivered in Darwin, Alice Springs, Katherine, and Tennant Creek and a Workforce Planning and Development Consultation and Coaching Service established. NTCOSS was able to assist community sector organisations in the effective use of the Community Sector Workforce Toolkit previously developed as part of the project to recruit and retain staff.

The project will continue into 2010 with a continued focus on community sector staff recruitment and retention issues. Working in partnership to deliver a series of ‘Bullying in the Workplace’ workshops, ‘Salaries and Condition’ seminars and ‘Skill Swap’ breakfasts as well as the establishment of an online workforce planning and development resource will be the project focus.
