Stronger Links Project (AOD & Mental Health)
STRONGER LINKS PROJECT (AOD & Mental Health)
Following on from three years of work under the Improved Services for People with Drug and Alcohol Problems and Mental Illness Initiative, Cross Sectorial Support And Strategic Partnerships Project NTCOSS was funded in July 2013 to deliver sector-wide capacity building activities under the Substance Misuse Service Delivery Grants Fund (SMSDGF). This work is known as the NTCOSS Stronger Links Project.
The Stronger Links Project team has consulted to gain a clear understanding of needs in the sector, including asking specific questions directed to organisations in the NGO AOD sector in the Northern Territory. Most organisations consulted listed concerns about workforce sustainability and attraction and retention of staff. Other areas of concern were; adequate funding levels, models of funding, program requirements, implementation of continuous quality improvement and building linkages and partnerships across the NT with other community service providers (eg: housing, social, recreation, training, employment, and volunteering) and government.
The Stronger Links Project is working towards building strong, sustainable and connected service delivery organisations that provide quality services by:
delivering professional development opportunities on range of topics such as recruitment and retention, continuous quality improvement and increase capacity to manage comorbidity and complex needs clients;
supporting the documentation of a shared care model between AOD, MH and other relevant sectors in community sector;
reviewing and update the AOD and Mental Health Directory;
assisting agencies to map services and promote an exchange of knowledge and understanding of pathways and services;
encouraging agencies to use combined community training and development calendar and
sourcing links of relevant websites and publications, to provide access to a wide range or resources.
