Child and Family

The Child and Family Project was established as a result of the inquiry into Child Protection and the "Growing them strong together" report. The aim of this project is to build collaborative relationships between the Department of Families and Children and the community sector and together design a new service system which has the capacity to prevent child abuse and neglect by better supporting vulnerable children and families. This project assists in identifying the roles, capacity and resources needed by community organisations. It also builds networks and capacity within the child and family sector. The project started at the beginning of October 2010. .

Information Sharing

The changes to the Information Sharing legislation have been introduced on 1 July 2012. The new legislation allows for NGOs, government agencies and foster carers to share information about children and their families in regards to the children’s safety and wellbeing. (Please see the DCF website for more information: http://childrenandfamilies.nt.gov.au/Child_Protection/InformationSharing/index.aspx

Get trained: NAPCAN has received funding to provide training to NGOs about info sharing. Go to http://profile.eventarc.com/profile/NAPCAN

To implement the new legislation every NGO will have to update their policies and procedures. To assist you in this process NTCOSS has developed a model policy for NGOs which you can download from our website and adjust it to suit you policy and procedures manual. If you need any further assistance with introducing the new legislation into your agency you can get help from NTCOSS. Please ring us on 8948 2665 or email janine@ntcoss.org.au
